DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Iowa 212 begins on the Benton-Iowa county line approximately one and one-half miles south of the City of Belle Plaine, and travels northerly and northwesterly via the City of Belle Plaine to the Benton-Tama county line approximately one-half mile west of the City of Belle Plaine.

 

Transfer of jurisdiction number TJ-212-0 (9), between Tama County and the Iowa Department of Transportation and an automatic transfer to the City of Chelsea, transferred Iowa 212 in Tama County to county and city jurisdiction.  To maintain continuity in the Iowa route numbering system the portion of Iowa 212 in Benton County from the Benton-Tama county line to the junction with Iowa 21 should be re-designated as unsigned Iowa 940 and the portion of Iowa 212 from the junction of Iowa 21 running duplicate with Iowa 21 to the Iowa county line should be eliminated.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

It is recommended the commission approve deleting the present description of Iowa 212 in Benton County from the primary road system.

 

Remove Iowa 212 in Benton County as follows:

 

Beginning at the Benton‑Iowa County line at a point near the SW Corner of Section 32‑T82N‑R12W, Benton County (NW Corner of Section 5‑T81N‑R12W, Iowa County); thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 32 and 29‑T82N‑R12W to the south corporation line of the City of Belle Plaine connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Belle Plaine:

 

Beginning at the south corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence northerly; thence westerly to the west corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Beginning again on the west corporation line of the City of Belle Plaine connecting with an unnamed street; thence northwesterly through Section 19­T82N‑R12W to a point near the NW Corner of Section 19‑T82N‑R12W, Benton County (NE Corner of Section 24‑T82N‑R13W, Tama County) (junction Iowa 21).

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, Iowa 212 in Benton County, Iowa should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

 

Iowa 212 begins at the Benton‑Iowa County line approximately 1 ½ mile south of Belle Plaine and travels northerly, and northwesterly through Belle Plaine to the Benton‑Tama County line approximately ½ mile west of the north corporation line of Belle Plaine.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

Locate Iowa 212 in Benton County as follows:

 

Beginning at the Benton‑Iowa County line at a point near the SW Corner of Section 32‑T82N-R12W, Benton County (NW Corner of Section 5‑T81N‑R12W, Iowa County); thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 32 and 29‑T82N‑R12W to the south corporation line of the City of Belle Plaine connecting with an unnamed street.

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Iowa 212 in Benton County, Iowa.

 

NOTE: To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.
