DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, US 18 in Hancock County should be deleted, and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

 

US 18 begins at the Kossuth‑Hancock County line, 8 miles west of Britt traveling in an easterly direction to the Cerro Gordo‑Hancock County line approx­imately 5 miles northwest of Garner via the cities of Britt and Garner, Iowa.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

Locate US 18 and its extensions in Hancock County as follows:

 

Beginning on the Hancock‑Kossuth County line at the NW Corner Section 31‑T96N‑R26W, Hancock County, (NE Corner Section 36‑T96N‑R27W, Kossuth County) (junction Iowa 17); thence easterly following substantially the section line along Sections 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 and 36‑T96N‑R26W and Sections 31 and 32‑T96N‑R25W, to a point approx­imately 750 feet east of the NW Corner Section 32‑T96N‑R25W; thence northeasterly through the south part of Section 29‑T96N‑R25W to the west corporation line of the City of Britt connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Britt:

 

Beginning at the west corporation line connecting with an unnamed street curving northeasterly and easterly to the east corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of the City of Britt connecting with an unnamed street; thence in an easterly direction through the center part of Sections 27, 26, and 25‑T96N‑R25W and Sections 30, 29, 28, 27, 26 (west junction US 69) and 25­-T96N‑R24W to a point approximately 1200 feet west of the E ¼ Corner of Section 25­T96N‑R24W; thence northeasterly through said Section 25 to the west corporation line of the City of Garner connecting with an unnamed street.


Garner:

 

Beginning at the west corporation line connecting with an unnamed street thence northeasterly, easterly and northeasterly to the east corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of the City of Garner connecting with an unnamed street; thence northeasterly along the north side of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railway and substantially parallel thereto through Sections 29, 28, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 13‑T96N‑R23W to the Hancock‑Cerro Gordo County line at a point approximately 600 feet north of the SE Corner Section 13‑T96N‑R23W, Hancock County (SW Corner Section 13‑T96N‑R23W, Cerro Gordo County).

 

NOW, THEREFORE:  Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of US 18 in Hancock County, Iowa.

 

NOTE:  To become effective upon adoption of this resolution.

Beginning on the Hancock‑Kossuth County Line at the SW Corner Section 30-T96N-R26W, Hancock County, (SE Corner Section 25‑T96N‑R27W, Kossuth County); thence east following the section line to a point near the SW Corner of Section 29-T96N‑R25W, and adjacent to the north side of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad; thence in an easterly direction along the north side of said railroad and substantially parallel thereto through Section 29‑T96N‑R25W to the west corporation line of the Town of Britt, con­necting with an unnamed street.

 

Britt:

 

Commencing on an unnamed street at the west corporation line; thence curving northeasterly and easterly on unnamed street to the intersection of Main Street, (Iowa 111); and unnamed street; thence easterly on unnamed street to the east corporation line.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of the Town of Britt connect­ing with an unnamed street; thence in an easterly direction through the SW ¼ Section 27‑T96N‑R25W to a point approximately ¼ mile north of the S ¼ Corner of Section 27‑T96N‑R25W, and adjacent to the north side of the Chicago, Milwaukee; St. Paul and Pacific Railroad; thence in an easterly direction along the north side of said railroad of substantially parallel thereto through Sections 27 and 26‑T96N‑R25W to a point approximately 1600 feet west of the east line of Section 26‑T96N‑R25W; thence easterly through Sections 26 and 25‑T96N‑R25W to a point near the E ¼ Corner Section 25‑T96N‑R25W; thence east following substantially the quarter section line to a point about ¼ mile west of the E ¼ Corner Section 25‑T96N‑R24W; thence easterly and northeasterly to the west corporation line of the Town of Garner connecting with Main Street.

 

Garner:

 

Commencing on Main Street at the west corporation line; thence easterly on Main Street to the east corporation line.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of the Town of Garner connect­ing with Main Street; thence northeasterly along the north side of the Milwaukee Railroad and substantially parallel thereto to the Hancock-Cerro Gordo County line at a point about .05 miles north of the SE Corner Section 13‑T96N‑R23W, Hancock County (.05 miles north of the SW Corner Section 18-T96N-R23W, Cerro Gordo County).
