Beginning on the Jefferson‑Van Buren County line at a point near the SW Corner Section 31‑T71N‑R9W, Jefferson County (NW Corner Section 6‑T70N‑R9W, Van Buren County); thence northerly following substantially the section line of Sections 31, 30, and 19‑T71N‑R9W to a point approximately 700 feet south of the W ¼ Corner of Section 19‑T71N‑R9W; thence in a northwesterly direction through Sections 24, 13, and 12‑T71N‑R10W to a point approximately ¼ mile east and 2300 feet north of the SW Corner of Section 12‑T71N‑R10W; thence northerly following substantially the west quarter section line of Sections 12 and 1‑T71N‑R10W and Section 36‑T72N‑R10W to the south corporation line of Fairfield connecting with Main Street.

Fairfield:

Beginning on Main Street at the south corporation line; thence northerly on Main Street to Burlington Avenue; thence west on Burlington Avenue to Second Street; thence north on Second Street to Merrill Avenue; thence west on Merrill Avenue to Fourth Street; thence north on Fourth Street to the north corporation line.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, Iowa 1 in Jefferson County should be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

Iowa 1 begins at the Jefferson‑Van Buren County line approximately 6 ½ miles south of Fairfield and travels northerly via Fairfield to the Jefferson‑Keokuk County line approximately 9 ½ miles north of Fairfield, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate Iowa 1 and its extension in Jefferson County as follows:

Beginning on the Jefferson‑Van Buren County line at a point near the SW Corner Section 31‑T71N‑R9W, Jefferson County, (NW Corner Section 6‑T70N‑R9W, Van Buren County); thence northerly following substantially the section line of Sections 31, 30 and 19‑T71N‑R9W to a point approximately 700 feet south of the W ¼ Corner of Section 19‑T71N‑R9W; thence in a north westerly direction through Sections 24, 13, and 12‑T71N‑R10W to a point approximately ½ mile east and 2300 feet north of the SW Corner of Section 12‑T71N‑R10W; thence northerly following substantially the west quarter section line of Sections 12 and 1‑T71N‑R10W and Section 36‑T72N‑R10W to the south corporation line of City of Fairfield connecting with an unnamed street.

Beginning again on the north corporation line of the City of Fairfield connecting with an unnamed street; thence northerly following substantially the section line of Sections 24, 13, 12 and 1‑T72N‑R10W and Sections 36, 25, 24, 13, 12, and 1‑T73N‑R10W to the Jefferson‑Keokuk County line at a point near the NW Corner of Section 1‑T73N‑R10W, Jefferson County (SW Corner of Section 36-T74N-R10W, Keokuk County).

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Iowa 1 in Jefferson County.

NOTE: To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.

Beginning on the Jefferson‑Van Buren County line at a point near the SE Corner of Section 36‑T71N‑R10W Jefferson County (NE Corner of Section 1‑T70N‑R10W Van Buren County); thence north following substantially the section line to a point approximately 200 feet south of the E ¼ Corner Section 24‑T71‑R10W; thence in a northwesterly direction through Section 24, 13, and 12‑T71N‑R10W to a point approximately ¼ mile east and 2,300 feet north of the SW Corner of Section 12‑T71N‑R10W; thence north following substantially the west quarter-quarter line of Section 12 and 1‑T71N‑R10W, and Section 36‑T72N‑R10W to the south corporation line of the City of Fairfield connecting with Main Street.

Fairfield:

Beginning again on the north corporation line of the City of Fairfield connecting with Fourth Street; thence north following substantially the section line to the NE Corner Section 2‑T73N‑R10W on the Jefferson‑Keokuk County line (SE Corner Section 35‑T74N‑R10W Keokuk County).

NOW THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa State Highway Commission approve the revision of the above Primary Road Description.

NOTE: To become effective upon adoption of this resolution.

The old location of Iowa 1 from Station 218+30 (new stationing) to Station 1329+50.3 in Section 12‑T71N‑R10W will revert to the Jefferson County Secondary Road System in accord with Section 313.2 Code of Iowa.
