DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, Iowa 78 in Jefferson County should be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

Iowa 78 begins on the Jefferson‑Washington County line approximately 3 ½ miles northeast of Pleasant Plain, Iowa and travels easterly to the Jefferson‑Henry County line at the west edge of Coppock, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate Iowa 78 in Jefferson County as follows:

Beginning on the Jefferson‑Washington County line at a point approximately 850 feet east of the N ¼ Corner of Section 5‑T73N‑R8W, Jefferson County (S ¼ Corner of Section 32‑T74N‑R8W, Washington County); thence easterly along the Jefferson-Washington County line following substantially the section line of Sections 5, 4, 3, and 2‑T73N‑R8W to a point near the N ¼ Corner of Section 2‑T73N‑R8W, Jefferson County (S ¼ Corner Section 35‑T74N‑R8W, Washington County); thence in a southeasterly direction through Sections 2 and 1‑T73N‑R8W to the Jefferson‑Henry County line (west corporation line of the City of Coppock) at a point approximately 880 feet south of the NE Corner Section 1‑T73N‑R8W, Jefferson County (NW Corner Section 6-T73N-R7W, Henry County).

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Iowa 78 in Jefferson County, Iowa.

NOTE: To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.

NOTE: Road construction completed and Maintenance assumed 11/9/48 (Verbal report by Teal).

Beginning on the Henry‑Jefferson County line at the west corporation line of the Town of Coppock, at a point about 880 feet south of the northeast corner Section 1‑T73N‑R8W, Jefferson County; thence in a westerly and northwesterly direction for a distance of about 1 ½ miles to a point near the N ¼ Corner Section 2‑T73N‑R8W, Jefferson County.

NOTE: Road construction completed and maintenance assumed 11/9/48 (Verbal report by Assistant District Engineer Teal).
