TITLE:
DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:
US 218 has
been relocated from the Johnson‑Washington County Line north and
northwesterly to a junction with Interstate 380; thence continuing north
running duplicate with Interstate 380 to the Johnson‑Linn County
Line. The first segment from the Johnson‑Washington
County Line to the Hills Interchange was opened to traffic on November 12,
1982. The second segment from the Hills
Interchange north to the Indian Hills Interchange was opened to traffic on
October 14, 1983. The third segment from
the Indian Hills Interchange northwesterly to a junction with Interstate 380
was opened to traffic on June 26, 1985.
These relocations were functionally classified under the State
Functional Classification System on November 25, 1986. The official description of US 218 should be
revised to reflect these relocations.
The old alignment of US 218 should be re-designated as unsigned
US 218
begins at the Johnson‑Washington County line approximately three and one‑half
(3 ½) miles southwest of Hills and travels northerly, northwesterly and
northerly via Iowa City and Coralville to the Johnson-Linn County Line
approximately one‑quarter (¼) mile west of Shueyville.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is
recommended to approve revising the description of US 218 in Johnson County and
including the new description in the Primary Road System.

of Hills and travels in a northwesterly direction to the Johnson‑Linn
County line approximately 1 ½ miles northeast of Swisher via the cities of Iowa
City, Coralville, and North Liberty, Iowa.
