DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to the relocation of US 63 north of Ottumwa, and the rerouting of Iowa 137, US 63, and Iowa 23, Iowa 149 is being extended to the junction of relocated US 63.

This extension was formerly US 63.

Iowa 149 now begins at the Wapello County line and runs northerly on the Keokuk-Mahaska County line to Iowa 23, and then heads easterly through Hedrick, Martinsburg, Sigourney, Webster and South English to the Keokuk-Iowa County Line.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the old description of Iowa 149 in Keokuk County be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description, as described in the attachment, be included in the Primary Road System.

New Description - Iowa 149 and its extensions in Keokuk County described as follows:

Beginning at a point near the SW Corner Section 31-T74N-R13W, Keokuk County, (NW Corner Section 6-T73N-R13W, Wapello County) (SE Corner Section 36-T74N-R14W, Mahaska County); thence north along the Keokuk-Mahaska County line following substantially the section line of Section 31 and 30 to a point approximately 30 meters (100 feet) north of the SW Corner Section 30-T74N-R13W; thence easterly through the south part of said Section 30 to a point approximately 290 meters (950 feet) west of the NE Corner Section 31-T74N-R13W; thence east following substantially the section line of Sections 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35-T74N-R13W to the west corporation line of Hedrick connecting with Sixth Street.

Due to the relocation of Iowa 149 in South English, in 1988, the description should be revised to show this change.

At the same time a small section of the old Iowa 149 curve became unsigned Iowa 953.

Iowa 149 begins at the Keokuk-Mahaska County Line and heads easterly through Hedrick, Martinsburg, Sigourney, Webster and South English to the Keokuk-Iowa County Line.

The official description for Iowa 149 in Keokuk County was found to be incorrect in our official records. The existing description should be replaced with the corrected version.
