TITLE: US 59, Mills County, Iowa

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records, US 59 in Mills County should be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary Road System.

US 59 begins at the Fremont‑Mills County line approximately ½ mile west of the SE Corner of Mills County and travels in a northerly direction to the Pottawattamie County line approximately 1 mile west of the NE Corner of Mills County via the City of Emerson, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate US 59 and its extension in Mills County, Iowa, as follows:

Beginning on the Mills‑Fremont County line at a point near the S ¼ Corner Section 36‑T71N‑R40W, Mills County (N ¼ Corner Section 1‑T70N‑R40W, Fremont County); thence north following substantially the center section line of Sections 36, 25, 24, 13, 12, and 1‑T71N‑R40W and Sections 36 and 25‑T72N‑R40W to a point near the center of Section 25‑T72N‑R40W; thence northwesterly through said Section 25 to the south corporation line of the City of Emerson connecting with an unnamed street.

Emerson:

Beginning at the south corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence northerly to the north corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.

Beginning again at the north corporation line of the City of Emerson connecting with an unnamed street; thence northwesterly through Section 24‑T72N‑R40W to a point approximately 1100 feet south of the center of W ½ Section 24‑T72N‑R40W; thence continuing in a northwesterly direction to a point near the NW Corner Section 24‑T72N‑R40W (junction US 34); thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 13, 12, and 1‑T72N‑R40W and Sections 36 25, 24, 13, 12, and 1-T73N‑R40W to a point on the Mills‑Pottawattamie County line near the NW Corner Section 1‑T73N‑R40W, Mills County (SW Corner Section 36‑T74N‑R40W, Pottawattamie County).

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of US 59, Mills County, Iowa.

Emerson:

Beginning on an unnamed street at the south corporation line, thence northerly on said unnamed street 240.1 feet to the north corporation line.

Beginning again at the north corporation line of the town of Emerson, thence northwesterly in Section 24‑T72N‑R40W along the east corporation line of the town of Emerson connecting with Bradford Avenue; thence north following substantially the west quarter-quarter line of Section 24‑T72N‑R40W to a point approximately 1100 feet south of the center of the W ½ Section 24‑T72N‑R40W; thence in a northwesterly direction to a point near the NW Corner of Section 24‑T72N‑R40W; thence north following substantially the section line to a point on the Mills‑Pottawattamie County line near the NW Corner of Section 1‑T73N‑R40W, Mills County (SW Corner Section 36‑T74N‑R40W, Pottawattamie County).
