DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:
Due
to a review of our Primary Road System records US
34 in Montgomery County should be deleted and the new
description added should be officially included into the Primary System.
US
34 begins on the Montgomery‑Mills County line approximately 8 miles west
of Red Oak, and travels easterly and southeasterly via the Cities of Red Oak
and Stanton, to the Montgomery‑Adams County line approximately 5 miles NE
of Villisca, Iowa.
PROPOSAL/ACTION
RECOMMENDATION:
Locate
US 34 and its extensions in Montgomery
County as follows:
Beginning
on the Montgomery‑Mills County line at a point approximately 110 feet
south of the NW Cor: Section 19‑T72N‑R39W,
Montgomery County
(NE Corner Section 24‑T72N‑R40W, Mills County);
thence in an easterly direction following substantially the section line of Sections
19, 20, 21, 22, and 23‑T72N‑R39W to a point near the NE Corner Section
23‑T72N-R39W; thence southeasterly through Section 24‑T72N‑R39W
and 19‑T72N‑R38W to a point approximately 100 feet west and 772
feet north of the E ¼ Corner of said Section 19; thence in an easterly
direction through Sections 19 and 20‑T72N‑R38W to the west
corporation line of the City of Red
Oak, connecting with an unnamed street.
Red
Oak:
Beginning
at the west corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence easterly
to the east corporation line, connecting with an unnamed street.
Beginning
again at the east corporation line of the City of Red Oak, connecting with an unnamed street;
thence in an easterly direction through Sections 22 and 23‑T72N‑R38W
to a point approximately 277 feet west and 871 feet north of the E ¼ Corner Section
22‑T72N‑R38W; thence in a southeasterly direction through Sections 22,
23, 24, and 25‑T72N‑R38W and Sections 30, 29, 32, and 33‑T72N‑R37W
to the north corporation line of the City of Stanton, connecting with an unnamed street.
Stanton:
Beginning on the north corporation
line, connecting with an unnamed street; thence southeasterly to the east
corporation line connecting with an unnamed street.
Beginning
again on the east corporation line of the City of Stanton, connecting with an
unnamed street; thence southeasterly through Sections 34‑T72N‑R37W
and 3 and 2‑T71N‑R37W to a point approximately 1140 feet east and
18 feet north of the center of Section 2‑T71N‑R37W; thence in a
general easterly direction through Sections 2 and 1‑T71N‑R37W and
6, 5, and 4‑T71N‑R36W to a point approximately 551 feet south of
the E ¼ Corner Section 4‑T71N‑R36W (junction of US 71); thence
northeasterly through Sections 3 and 2‑T71N‑R36W to a point
approximately 1,931 feet west of the center of Section 2‑T71N‑R36W;
thence easterly following substantially the center section line through Sections
2 and 1‑T71N‑R36W to the Montgomery‑Adams County line at a
point near the E ¼ Corner Section 1‑T71N‑R36W, Montgomery County (W
¼ Corner Section 6‑T71N‑R35W, Adams County).

THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve
the location of US 34 in Montgomery County, Iowa.

To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.
