Iowa 5 is being relocated between Southeast 14th Street (US 69/65) and Iowa 28.

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement number 2001-TJ-002, between the City of Des Moines and the Iowa Department of Transportation, transferred that portion of Iowa 5 from Southeast 14th Street (US 69/65) to Iowa 28 (a point near the E ¼ Corner SW ¼ Section 36-T78N-R25W) to city jurisdiction on February 20, 2001.

New Description - Iowa 5 and its extensions in Polk County described as follows:

Beginning on the Polk-Warren County line at a point near the SW Corner Section 33-T78N-R23W, Polk County (NW Corner Section 4-T77N-R23W, Warren County); thence in a northwesterly and westerly to the east corporation line of Des Moines (approximately 290 feet north of the S ¼ Corner SE ¼ Section 31-T78N-R23W).

Iowa 5 is being routed with US 65 from the east junction to the west junction; thence north on US 69 to its current location on Army Post Road in Des Moines.

Transfer of jurisdiction agreement numbers 91-TJ-014 and 91-TJ-012, between the Iowa Department of Transportation, the City of Des Moines and Polk County transferred the old location of Iowa 5 to the City of Des Moines and Polk County on December 31, 1997.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the old description of Iowa 5 in Polk County be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description, as described in the attachment, be included in the Primary Road System.
