New Description Unsigned Iowa 988 and its extension in Pottawattamie County described as follows:

Beginning at a point near the E ¼ Corner Section 28‑T76N‑R44W (junction Interstate 680 and 29); thence in a northeasterly direction through Sections 28, 27 and 26‑T76N‑R44W to a point approximately 1,000 feet west of the N ¼ Corner Section 26‑T76N‑R44W; thence east following substantially the section line of Section 26‑T76N‑R44W to the west corporation line of Crescent, connecting with Mormon Bridge Road.

Crescent:

Beginning on Mormon Bridge Road at the west corporation line; thence east on Mormon Bridge Road to Lincoln Highway (junction Iowa 183).

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records Unsigned Iowa 988 in Pottawattamie County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

Unsigned Iowa 988 begins at an interchange with Interstate 29 and 680 approximately 2 miles southwest of Crescent and travels northeasterly and easterly to Iowa 183 in Crescent, Iowa.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Locate Unsigned Iowa 988 and its extension in Pottawattamie County as follows:

Beginning at a point near the W ¼ Corner Section 27‑T76N‑R44W (junction Interstate 680 and 29); thence in a northeasterly direction through Sections 28, 27, and 26‑T76N‑R44W to a point approximately 1000 feet west of the N ¼ Corner Section 26‑T76N‑R44W; thence east following substantially the section line of Section 26-T76N‑R44W to the west corporation line of the City of Crescent connecting with an unnamed street.

Crescent:

Beginning on the West corporation line connecting with an unnamed street; thence easterly on unnamed street to Lincoln Highway (junction Iowa 183).

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of Unsigned Iowa 988 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

NOTE: To become effective upon the adoption of this resolution.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

The recent acquisition of the Mormon Trail Bridge Road in Pottawattamie County included 5.18 miles of road which was previously owned by the Douglas County Nebraska Bridge Commission. The section of this road from the Missouri River east to Interstate 29 is now part of Interstate 680 which was approved by Iowa State Highway Commission Resolution 74‑16. That action did not affect the section of road from Interstate 29 east into the Town of Crescent, which is owned by the State of Iowa but is not part of the State's Primary Road System.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

Recommend that the following described section of road and its extension be included in the State Primary Road System as Unsigned Iowa 988 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

Beginning at a point near the W ¼ Corner Section 27‑T76N‑R44W; thence in a northeasterly direction through Sections 27 and 26‑T76N‑R44W to a point approximately 330 feet east of the N ¼ Corner NW ¼ Section 26‑T76N‑R44W; thence east following substantially the section line along the south line of Section 25‑T76N‑R44W to the west corporation line of the Town of Crescent connecting with Mormon Bridge Road.

Commencing on Mormon Bridge Road at the west‑corporation line; thence east on Mormon Bridge Road to Iowa 183.
