Beginning on the Pottawattamie‑Mills County line at a point near the SE Corner Section 35‑T74N‑R44W, Pottawattamie County (NE Corner Section 2‑T73N‑R40W, Mills County); thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 36, 25, 24, 13, 12 (junction Iowa 92) and 1‑T74N‑R40W and Sections 36, 25, 24 and 13‑T75N‑R40W (south junction US 6) to a point approximately 500 feet north of the E ¼ Corner Section 14‑T75N‑R40W; thence in a northeasterly direction through Section 13‑T75N‑R40W to the south corporation line of Oakland connecting with Highway Street.

 

Oakland:

 

Beginning on Highway Street at the south corporation line; thence curving northeasterly on Highway Street to the east corporation line.

 

Beginning again on the east corporation line of Oakland connecting with Highway Street; thence easterly through Section 7‑T75N‑R39W to a point (north junction US 6) approximately 50 feet south and 50 feet east of the NW Corner Section 7‑T75N‑R39W; thence northerly through the west part of Sections 7 and 6‑T75N‑R39W and Sections 31 and 30‑T76N‑R39W to a point approximately ¼ mile south of the NW Corner Section 30‑T76N‑R39W; thence in a northeasterly direction through Sections 30, 19 and 18‑T76N‑R39W to the south corporation line of Hancock connecting with an unnamed street.

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

 

Due to a review of our Primary Road System records US 59 in Pottawattamie County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.

 

US 59 begins on the Pottawattamie‑Mills County line approximately 2 miles south and one mile east of Macedonia, and travels generally north‑northeasterly via Oakland, Hancock and Avoca to the Pottawattamie‑Shelby County line approximately 2 miles north of Avoca.

 

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

 

Locate US 59 and its extensions in Pottawattamie County as follows:

 

Beginning on the Pottawattamie‑Mills County line at a point near the SE Corner Section 35‑T74N‑R40W, Pottawattamie County (NE Corner Section 2‑T73N‑R40W, Mills County); thence north following substantially the section line of Sections 36, 25, 24, 13, 12 (junction Iowa 92) and 1‑T74N‑R40W and Sections 36, 25, 24 and 13-T75N-­R40W (south junction US 6) to a point approximately 500 feet north of the E ¼ Corner Section 14‑T75N‑R40W thence in a northeasterly direction through Section 13­-T75N‑R40W to the south corporation line of the City of Oakland connecting with an unnamed street.

NOW, THEREFORE: Be it resolved that the Iowa Department of Transportation approve the location of US 59 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.
