DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

Due to construction and the realignment of US 218 in Washington County in 1997 the official description should be changed to reflect this.

At the same time two sections of old US 218 became Iowa 923.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended the old description of US 218 in Washington County be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description, as described in the attachment, be included in the primary road system.

New Description - US 218 in Washington County described as follows:

Beginning on the Washington-Henry County Line at a point approximately 122 meters (400 feet) east of the SW Corner Section 34-T74N-R6W, Washington County, (NW Corner Section 3-T73N-R6W, Henry County); thence in a northeasterly and northerly direction through Sections 34, 27, 22, 15 and 10-T74N-R6W to approximately the N ¼ Corner SE ¼ of Section 10; thence northwesterly through Sections 10 and 3 to NW ¼ of Section 3; thence northerly through Section 3-T74N-R6W and Sections 34, 27 and 22-T75N-R6W to the junction of Iowa 92; thence northerly and northwesterly through Sections 22, 15, 10 and 9-T75N-R6W to approximately the N ¼ Corner Section 9-T75N-R6W; thence northerly through the center of Section 4-T75N-R6W and Sections 33, 28, 21, 16, 9 and 4-T76N-R6W and Sections 33, 28, 21, 16 and 9-T77N-R6W to a point near the center of Section 9-T77N-R6W (junction Iowa 22); thence northerly through Sections 9 and 4-T77N-R6W to the Washington-Johnson County line at a point near the N ¼ Corner Section 4-T77N-R6W, Washington County (S ¼ Corner Section 33-T78N-R6W, Johnson County).

At the same time the section of old US 218 became Iowa 923.

US 218 begins at the Washington-Henry County Line and runs northerly through Crawfordsville and then northerly to the Washington-Johnson County Line.

Washington County, (NW Corner Section 3-T73N-R6W, Henry County); thence in a northeasterly, northerly and northwesterly direction through Sections 34, 27, 22 and 15-T74N-R6W to the south corporation line of the City of Crawfordsville, connecting with Main Street.

TITLE: Official Description Change: US 218, Washington County

DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:

US 218 has been relocated from a junction with Iowa 22 in Washington County west and north to the Washington‑Johnson County line and opened to traffic on November 12, 1982, and functionally classified under the State Functional Classification System on March 29, 1983.

The official description of US 218 in Washington County should be revised to reflect this relocation. The remainder of US 218 in Washington County remains unchanged. The portion of old US 218 from Iowa 22 north to the Washington‑Johnson County line should be re-designated as unsigned Iowa 923.

US 218 begins at the Washington‑Henry County line approximately three miles west of the SE Corner of Washington County and travels northerly via Crawfordsville to the Washington‑Johnson County line approximately one and one‑half miles west of the NE corner of Washington County.

PROPOSAL/ACTION RECOMMENDATION:

It is recommended to approve revising the description of US 218 in Washington County and including the new description in the Primary Road System.

Due to a review of our Primary Road System Records US 218 in Washington County should be deleted and the new description added should be officially included into the Primary System.
