Starting in October of 2017, the Iowa Department of Transportation took over the administration of the DERA Grant Program from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Air Quality Bureau.  You can find information regarding past DERA grant awards on the DNR’s webpage.

Iowa’s 2023 DERA Program Awards

  • Crandic Rail – Purchase and install engine upgrade and EPA-certified remanufactured systems in three locomotives– up to $372,387
  • Windstar Lines – Replace one diesel-powered transit bus with one new low-NOx propane transit bus – up to $133,750
  • Clear Lake CSD - Replace one diesel-powered school bus with one new diesel-powered school bus – up to $37,500
  • Keokuk County Highway Department - Replace two class 8 diesel-powered dump trucks with two new class 8 Low-NOx dump trucks – up to $191,100
  • Mahaska County – Replace one class 8 diesel-powered truck with one new class 8 Low-NOx truck – up to $109,462

  • STA of Iowa – Replace six diesel-powered school buses with six new diesel-powered school buses - $133,428

  • Sunflower Enterprises – Replace two 1980 engine model year, Tier 0, propulsion engines with two 2019 engine model year, Tier 3, propulsion engines and replace two 1978 engine model year Tier 0, 99 auxiliary engines with two 2019 engine model year, Tier 3, 99 auxiliary engines on the M/v Belgian – up to $311,899.
  • Sunflower Enterprises – Replace two 1974 engine model year, Tier 0, auxiliary engines with two 2019 engine model year, Tier 3, auxiliary engines on the Captain Newt – up to $125,027.  
  • Iowa Steel & Wire Company – Replace four diesel-powered forklifts with four new all-electric forklifts – up to $110,440.
  • Keokuk County Highway Department – Replace one class 8 diesel-powered dump truck with one new class 8 low-NOx diesel-powered dump truck – up to $70,000
  • Hy-Vee – Replace one diesel-powered terminal truck with one new all-electric truck – up to $150,488.
  • Mahaska County Secondary Roads Department – Replace one class 8 diesel-powered single-axle dump truck with one new class 8 diesel-powered single-axle dump truck – up to $43,750
  • Lime Rock Springs DBA/Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co of Dubuque – Replace one class 7 diesel-powered truck with one new class 7 diesel-powered trucks – up to $26,236.
