Iowa’s Byways Grant Solicitation Requirements

1. All projects should reflect the priorities outlined in the corridor management plan that the respective byway organization has prepared.



2. New for the FY 2008 Grant Solicitation is the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA’s) emphasis on “large-scale, high-cost projects that provide strategic benefits to the byway” (see National Scenic Byways Program FY 2008 Grant Information, Administrative Criteria 1 http://www.bywaysonline.org/grants/application/information/).
   
   As a result, the Iowa DOT will not establish a maximum grant request amount for the FY2008 Grant Solicitation. Instead, we will remind grant applicants that the total amount of National Scenic Byway funds awarded to Iowa annually has historically been approximately one million dollars.
   
   We therefore urge grant applicants to use their best judgment, based on this new guidance, in deciding the amount they request in grant applications. Applications will be scored according to the criteria on the Iowa National Scenic Byway (NSB) Grant Application Evaluation Sheet found on the Iowa’s Byway Web site at http://iowadot.gov/iowasbyways/.
