STATE PARKS AND INSTITUTIONAL ROADS
One of the duties of the Iowa Transportation Commission is to construct, reconstruct, improve, and maintain roadways, including bridges, within state-owned lands.
There are over 600 miles of roadways in the Parks and Institutional Roads System.
State agencies that participate in the maintenance and improvement of these roadways are Corrections, Education, Human Services, Natural Resources, State Fair Board, Iowa National Guard, Board of Regents, and the State Capitol Complex.
