DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND:
As
per transfer of jurisdiction agreement number 96-TJ-007 between the Iowa
Department of Transportation, the City of Altoona and Polk County, the State
agrees to take back the diagonal section of the old location of US 6 and US 65
from the relocated US 65 interchange northeast to the interchange with
Interstate 80 and US 65. This section
will again by US 6.
Effective
date was August 19, 1996.

RECOMMENDATION:
It
is recommended the old description of US 6 in Polk County
be deleted from the Primary Road System and the new description, as described
in the attachment, be included in the Primary Road System.

Remove
from the Primary Road System and Federal Aid System the road,
Beginning
on the Polk-Dallas County line at a point approximately 1400 feet south of the
NW Corner Section 30‑T78N‑R25W, Polk County (NE Corner Section 25‑T78N‑R26W,
Dallas County); thence in a northeasterly direction crossing the Chicago, Rock
Island & Pacific Railway overpass to a point approximately 300 feet west of
the N ¼ Corner Section 30‑T78N‑R25W; thence east approximately 300
feet to the west corporation line of the City of West Des Moines connecting
with a unnamed street at a point 6 feet west of the S ¼ Corner Section 19‑T78N‑R25W.
Beginning
again on the north corporation line of the City of West Des Moines connecting
with an unnamed street at a point approximately 750 feet west of the SE Corner
Section 32‑T79N‑R25W; thence in a northerly direction through
Sections 32, 29 and 20‑T79N‑R25W to a point approximately 560 feet
west of the SE Corner Section 17‑T79N‑R25W; thence curving in a
northeasterly and easterly direction through the SE ¼ Section 17‑T79N‑R25W
and the SW ¼ Section 16‑T79N‑R25W to a point near the center of
Section 16‑T79N‑R25W; thence in an easterly direction through
Sections 16, 15 and 14‑T79N‑R25W to a point approximately 520 feet
north of the E ¼ Corner Section 14‑T79N‑R25W; thence continuing in
an easterly direction through Section 13‑T79N‑R25W and Sections 18,
17, 16, 15, 14 and 13-T79N-R24W and Section 18‑T79N‑R23W to a point
approximately ¼ mile east of the W ¼ Corner Section 18‑T79N‑R23W;
thence easterly and northeasterly through Sections 18, 17, and 16-T79N-R23W to
a point approximately 172 feet east of the N ¼ Corner Section 16-T79N-R23W, and
continuing in a northeasterly and easterly direction through Sections 9, 10 and
11-T79N-R23W to a point approximately 1182 feet north of the SE Corner Section
11-T79N-R23W; thence northeasterly through Section 12 T79N-R23W and Sections
27, 8, 5 and 4-T79N-R22W; thence curving easterly and following substantially
the quarter section line through Sections 3,2 and 1-T79N-R22W to the Polk-Jasper
County Line at a point approximately 136 feet north of the E ¼ Corner Section
1-T79N-R22W, Polk county (W ¼ Corner Section 6-T79N-R21W, Jasper County).

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the description of US 6 in Polk County in the
Commission's minutes of November 16, 1960 is hereby rescinded.
NOTE: To become effective upon adoption of this
resolution.

the Extension of US 6 from the streets or roads as follows:
Commencing
on an unnamed street at the west corporation line at a point 6 feet west of the
S ¼ Corner Section 19‑T78N‑R25W; thence east following the section
line approximately 1416 feet to a point 1222 feet west of the SE Corner Section
19‑T78N‑R25W; thence northerly on an unnamed street through Section
19, 18, 7, and 6‑T78N‑R25W to the north corporation line at a point
approximately 750 feet west of the SE Corner Section 32‑T79N‑R25W.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the description of the extension of US 6 in the City
(Town) of West Des Moines, Polk County, as described in the Commission's
minutes of November 19, 1958, is hereby rescinded.
NOTE: To become effective upon adoption of this
resolution.
