Section 2422. Unclassified Pipe Culverts.

2422.01 DESCRIPTION.
Unclassified pipe culverts shall consist of the construction and installation of roadway and entrance culverts for which inside dimensions and length are specified. The selection of pipe of a type permitted by this specification, or other approved types permitted in the contract documents, will be optional with the Contractor. Use of more than one type of pipe at one installation site will not be permitted unless by written approval of the Engineer. The definitions of roadway and entrance culverts shall be as defined in Article 2416.01.

The installations shall be in accordance with the contract documents and in conformance with applicable requirements for the particular type of pipe used.

2422.02 MATERIALS.
The Contractor shall select the type of pipe culvert for unclassified roadway and unclassified entrance from the following lists.

2422.03 INSTALLATION.
When rigid pipe culverts are furnished, they shall be installed as provided in Article 2416.04. When corrugated pipe culverts are furnished, they shall be installed as provided in Articles 2417.04 and 2417.05.

2422.04 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT.
Unclassified pipe culverts will be measured as provided in Articles 2416.05 and 2417.06.

Excavation for roadway pipe culverts will be measured as provided in Article 2402.12. The plan quantity of excavation will be based on an excavation, centered for the pipe, of the required depth, length, and a width of 42 inches (1 m) plus the specified diameter of the pipe. Modification will not be made in the quantity shown in the contract documents for variations in wall thickness of the various types of pipe. Modifications will be made in the quantity of excavation for changes in location or flowline as provided in Article 2402.12.

Excavation for entrance culverts will be considered as incidental to pipe installation and will not be measured separately for payment.

If granular backfill is required and furnished, Article 2402.12, D, shall apply.

If foundation treatment has been placed at the direction of the Engineer, Article 2402.12, E, shall apply.

2422.05 BASIS OF PAYMENT.
Payment for unclassified pipe culverts will be as provided in Articles 2416.06 or 2417.07.
