Section 4104. Burlap for Curing Concrete.

4104.01 DESCRIPTION.
Burlap used for curing concrete shall meet requirements of AASHTO M 182 (10 ounces (284 g)) except as modified below. It shall be jute or kenaf fabric that has not been in contact with wool, sugar, molasses, or other substance that might have an objectionable effect on fresh concrete.

In lieu of the minimum weight (mass) specified, a sample dried in an oven at a temperature of 215°F to 225°F (102°C to 107°C) for 10 minutes shall weigh not less than 8.0 ounces per square yard (270 g/m2).

Burlap shall be sewn into covers of width sufficient to cover the full width of concrete surface to be covered, plus one foot (0.3 m). In sewing the covers, all welt seams shall be on the same side of the sheet.
