CHAIN-LINK FENCE AND FIELD FENCE
This memorandum covers fence materials for use in chain-link fence and field fence. All fence material shall be new and shall comply with the requirements of Standard Specifications 4154. All fence materials of iron or steel shall be from domestic origin and melted and manufactured in the USA.
Source Approval
Prior to furnishing material for a project, the manufacturer or supplier shall submit a Certification and Guarantee as provided for in AASHTO M 181 for approval of the engineer.
Certification Statement
Material from a manufacturer or supplier with an approved certification and guarantee may be incorporated in a project provided each shipment is accompanied by either a bill of lading or a separate letter form listing the information and containing a certification of compliance as outlined below, and, where appropriate, the materials are melted and manufactured in the USA. An authorized representative of the manufacturer or supplier shall sign the certification statement.
The following information and certification shall appear on the above documents:
1. Manufacturer or supplier name
2. Description of materials
3. Destination
4. Project number
5. Number of pieces, thickness, diameter, length, and brand
Certification Statement
It is hereby certified that the material furnished as listed was manufactured in accordance with and meets the requirements of AASHTO M 181 as modified by the Iowa Department of Transportation Specifications. We also certify that all steel used to fabricate this material meets the requirements of IM 107 Group 1, Buy America.
Acceptance
Acceptance will be based on an approved manufacturer or supplier listed in Appendix A, B, or D and certification statement.

Acceptance
Acceptance of steel line posts and braces for field fence will be based on an approved supplier listed in D and certification statement. Acceptance of wood fence posts will be based on an approved source as listed in IM 462 Appendix A.
The District Materials Office shall secure monitor samples from projects. A minimum of one sample should be obtained annually for each source. Test samples from a project shall be a minimum of 36 to 48 inches in length and shall represent posts, top rail, and brace material of the same lot. Fabric test samples shall represent a cross section of a minimum of 12 inches wide by 72 inches high of the same lot.
