INSPECTION & ACCEPTANCE
SEALANTS FOR TRAFFIC LOOP DETECTORS
Sealants for traffic loop detectors shall meet the requirements of applicable Iowa Department of Transportation Specifications. Approved Products are listed in the Materials Approved Products Listing Enterprise (MAPLE).
Acceptance of sealants for traffic loop detectors for use on Iowa Department of Transportation projects will be on the basis of manufacturer and brand name approval.
To obtain approval the manufacturer shall submit the following items to the Office of Materials in Ames, Iowa:
1. A current Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
2. Complete manufacturer recommendations for usage
3. A sample adequate to make approximately one quart (1 liter) of mixed materials
The laboratory evaluation will check the bonding capability to both Portland and asphalt cement concrete.
Approval of sealants may be withdrawn because of noncompliant monitor test results; product changes made after the original approval, or unsatisfactory field performance.
The manufacturer shall file a certification statement at the beginning of each calendar year stating that the material supplied during that year is identical with the formulation previously tested and approved by the Office of Materials.
The Office of Materials may sample and test sealants to verify compliance with specifications.
