METHACRYLATE RESIN
High molecular weight methacrylate (HMWM) primers/resins may be applied to concrete bridge decks to bond and seal cracks. Methyl methacrylate (MMA) primer/resins may be applied to seal cracks and seal the concrete
Acceptance of methacrylate resin for use on the Department of Transportation projects will be on the basis of manufacturer and brand name approval. Approved manufacturers and brands of concrete sealers are listed in the Materials Approved Products Listing Enterprise (MAPLE) as the Appendix A for HMWM and B for MMA.
APPROVAL OF HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT METHACRYLATE (HMWM)
High molecular weight methacrylate (HMWM) primer/resin is a penetrant for bonding and sealing cracks in concrete. The accepted HMWM primer/resin shall contain at least 90% of solids by weight, and conform to the following requirements:

Approval of HMWM will be based on manufacturer providing independent laboratory test report to prove the product meets the above requirements. The manufacturer shall also include the following information on the container for the HMWM: The name of the manufacturer, the brand name of the product and the date of manufacture.
The sand used to maintain friction shall be a commercial quality dry 8/20 blast sand or other recommended by the HMWM manufacturer.
APPROVAL OF METHYL METHACRYLATE (MMA)
Methyl methacrylate (MMA) primer/resin is a penetrant for bonding and sealing cracks in concrete and sealing concrete. The accepted MMA primer/resin shall conform to the following requirements:

Approval of MMA will be based on manufacturer providing independent laboratory test report to prove the product meets the above requirements. The manufacturer shall also include the following information on the container for the MMA: The name of the manufacturer, the brand name of the product and the date of manufacture.
The sand used to maintain friction shall be a commercial quality dry 8/20 blast sand or other recommended by the MMA manufacturer.
Manufacturer shall file a certification statement at the beginning of each calendar year stating that the material supplied during that year is identical with the formulation previously tested and approved by the Construction and Materials Bureau.
The Construction and Materials Bureau may sample and test methacrylate resins to verify compliance with specifications.
