SEALANTS FOR TRAFFIC LOOP DETECTORS


 

GENERAL

Sealants for traffic loop detectors shall meet the requirements of applicable Iowa Department of Transportation Specifications. Approved Products are listed in the Materials Approved Products Listing Enterprise (MAPLE).

 

ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance of sealants for traffic loop detectors for use on Iowa Department of Transportation projects will be on the basis of manufacturer and brand name approval.

 

MANUFACTURER & BRAND NAME APPROVAL

To obtain approval the manufacturer shall submit the following items to the Construction and Materials Bureau in Ames, Iowa:

 

1.   A current Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

2.   Complete manufacturer recommendations for usage

3.   Independent lab test data regarding bonding capabilities to both Portland and asphalt cement concrete, viscosity rates, cure rates and resistance to oil, gasses, grease, acids and alkalis.

4.   Product Brochures and technical data sheets.

 

Approval of sealants may be withdrawn because of noncompliant monitor test results; product changes made after the original approval, or unsatisfactory field performance.

 

CERTIFICATION

The manufacturer shall notify the department of any changes to the products approved by the Construction and Materials Bureau and shall provide updated test data as indicated above on the changed product.

 

MONITOR SAMPLING & TESTING

The Construction and Materials Bureau may sample and test sealants to verify compliance with specifications.
