INSPECTION & ACCEPTANCE
Tire buffing’s from the tire retreading industry used for filling expansion joints shall meet the requirements of applicable Iowa Department of Transportation Specifications.
Acceptance of tire buffing’s used for filling expansion joints is based on approved sources and visual inspection by the project inspector. Any commercial retreading facility or material supplier is approved to supply the tire buffings. The tire buffings shall be clean, dry, and free of foreign materials and of consistent gradation. The Central Materials Office in Ames will clarify any questions about acceptability. Approved sources for tire buffing’s are listed in the Materials Approved Product Listing Enterprise (MAPLE).
The Construction and Materials Bureau may sample any lot at the job site, supplier, or source and test to verify compliance with specifications. District Materials may sample at their discretion.
