SLOTTED DRAIN GRATE
This IM covers the approval process to manufacture steel slotted drain grates that will be welded to corrugated metal pipe (CMP) to create a pavement drainage structure. The CMP utilized shall be from an approved source listed in IM 441. Six-inch slotted drain grates shall comply with the requirements of Standard Road Plan DR-502. Twelve-inch slotted drain grates or Modified DR-502 grates shall comply with the requirements listed within the project plans.
Submit the following for approval:
1. Approved Quality Control Plan
2. Qualified quality control personnel
3. Welder certifications - Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is not required
4. Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS’s)
ACCEPTANCE
Approved manufacturers are listed in the Materials Approved Products Listing (MAPLE). Approved galvanizer and thickness test reports are required.
CERTIFICATION
The manufacturer shall furnish, on each shipment day, a certified bill of materials or invoice which identifies the county, project number, contractor, and number of pieces. The certification of compliance shall be signed by a designated, responsible company representative. Example certification as follows:
"The materials itemized in this shipment are certified to be in compliance with the applicable AASHTO and/or ASTM requirements and Iowa Department of Transportation Standard Plans and Specifications, IMs and meet the Buy America requirements as described in IM 107 for all steel, iron products and coatings."
