CORRUGATED ZINC-COATED STEEL PLATES
FOR PIPES & ARCHES
This memorandum covers galvanized corrugated steel structural plates and fasteners for use in the construction of pipe, pipe arches, arches, underpasses and special shapes for field assembly. Materials shall meet the requirements of Standard Specifications 4144.
Approved sources are listed in the Materials Approved Products Listing Enterprise (MAPLE).
Prior to furnishing material for a project the fabricator shall submit a Certification and Guarantee as provided for in AASHTO M167 to the Office of Construction and Materials.
Material from a fabricator with an approved certification and guarantee may be incorporated in a project provided each shipment is accompanied by either a bill of lading or a separate letter form listing the information and containing a certification of compliance as outlined below The signed mill test reports/certification shall also include a statement indicating the steel meets the requirements of IM 107, Group 2, Buy America.
IDENTIFICATION
Each plate shall be identified as follows:
1. Fabricator name and location
2. Identification showing heat number and coating lot number
3. Specified zinc-coated plate thickness
4. Specified coating mass - NOTE: Coating shall adhere to the base metal, so that no peeling or flaking occurs during handling and/or shipping.
5. Identification symbols showing sheet manufacturer and heat number or lot number.
6. AASHTO M167 Designation.
The fabricator of galvanized corrugated steel structural plates and fasteners units shall furnish, on each shipment day, a certified bill of materials or invoice which identifies the county, project number, contractor, and number of pieces.
Certification of compliance shall include a statement indicating materials in shipment are certified to be in compliance with:
Applicable Iowa DOT IMs, Standard Plans, and Specifications
Applicable AASHTO and/or ASTM requirements
All Buy America Group 2 requirements as described in IM 107.
The statement shall be signed by a designated, responsible company representative.
The District Materials Office shall secure monitor samples from projects. A minimum of one sample should be obtained annually for each fabricator. The sample size shall be 1 foot by 1 foot square obtained from an end section. One set per size of bolts, nuts, and washers shall be obtained at random for testing.
ACCEPTANCE
Acceptance will be based on approved fabricators listed in Appendix A.
Bolts used shall comply with Standard Specification 4144.
