INSPECTION & ACCEPTANCE

FIBERGLASS CONDUIT

(REINFORCED THERMOSETTING RESIN CONDUIT, RTRC)


 

GENERAL

Fiberglass (RTRC) conduit shall meet the requirements of applicable Iowa Department of Transportation Specifications. Approved Products are listed in the Materials Approved Products Listing Enterprise (MAPLE).

 

ACCEPTANCE

Acceptance of Fiberglass (RTRC) conduit for use on Iowa Department of Transportation projects will be on the basis of manufacturer and brand name approval.

 

MANUFACTURER & BRAND NAME APPROVAL

To obtain approval the manufacturer shall submit the following items to the Construction and Materials Bureau in Ames, Iowa: (emailed submittals are preferred)

 

1.   A current product brochure along with recommendations for usage.

2.   ISO Certification or quality control manual for assurance of product uniformity.

3.   A 3’ sample with an appropriate coupling may be required with submittal after brochure review.

4.   Confirmation of Conformance to current NEMA standards for aboveground and below ground RTRC Standards (NEMA TC-14, UL2515, UL2515A and/or UL2420) along with confirmation of conformance to applicable Iowa DOT specifications.

 

Approval of conduit may be withdrawn because of non-compliant monitor test results; product changes made after the original approval, or unsatisfactory field performance.

 

MARKING & IDENTIFICATION

All conduits and elbows shall be durably and legibly marked in accordance to NEMA TC-14. The following info shall also be included: UL2515 UL2515A and/or UL2420, Manufacturer and reseller (If conduit was modified or bent other than by the manufacturer), and Date of manufacturing of the conduit and elbows. Elbows shall be marked with the angle and radius.

 

All conduit, elbows and fittings shall be manufactured in the USA and marked as such.

 

MONITOR SAMPLING & TESTING

The Construction and Materials Bureau may sample or request samples and test Fiberglass conduits to verify compliance with Specifications.
