SPEED FEEDBACK SIGN
Speed feedback signs are a part of speed feedback trailers that are used to capture vehicle speed for oncoming traffic. The display is a device connecting to the speed feedback trailer capable of broadcasting the speed of oncoming traffic captured by the speed feedback sign. This device allows for vehicle speed feedback to the vehicle operator, allowing for speed adjustment throughout the remainder of the work zone.
Speed feedback signs shall meet the current requirements of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD - 2009) and Iowa DOT Standard Specification Section 4188.
Acceptance of Speed Feedback signs for use on Iowa Department of Transportation projects will be on the basis of manufacturer and brand name approval.
Approved Manufacturers and Brand Names are listed in the Materials Approved Products Listing Enterprise (MAPLE).
Manufacture and Brand Name Approval
To obtain approval the manufacturer shall submit the following items to the Construction and Materials Bureau in Ames, Iowa:
1) A set of current product literature and technical data.
2) Certification the Speed Feedback sign meets or exceeds all applicable specifications.
