I-74 Iowa-Illinois Corridor

Draft environmental impact statement (DEIS)

I-74 corridor

The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA) requires agencies using federal funding for a project prepare an environmental document. A draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) was prepared for the I-74 improvement and was circulated for comment.

An EIS has two major parts, the draft EIS (DEIS) and the final EIS (FEIS). With the completion of the DEIS, the Iowa and Illinois departments of Transportation identified a preferred alternative. The next steps include refinement and evaluation of the preferred alternative in the FEIS. Ultimately, a record of decision (ROD) will be issued by the FHWA approving the selected alternative.
