Benefits
Travel
With its narrow width and lack of shoulders, the old Mississippi River Bridge has been a major contributor to local congestion problems. The new I-74 River Bridge provides a better traveling experience with additional travel lanes, improvements to interchanges and intersections, as well as other improvements.
Growing Communities
The Quad Cities is growing, and the Iowa and Illinois departments of transportation want to bring the public a safer commute, better-designed interchanges, and a more reliable travel experience. The I-74 Mississippi River Bridge includes additional travel lanes, improvements to interchanges and intersections, and new designs for on- and off-ramps.
Bicycle & Pedestrians
A number of bicycle and pedestrian facilities are included in the project area, including a multi-use path along the I-74 bridge and connections to existing local paths in both Bettendorf and Moline.
Safety & Reliability
New interchanges, local road reconfigurations, and the new bridge improve mobility and operation, thereby making it safer and more reliable for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
