Section 4163. Treated Timber and Lumber.
4163.01 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS.
All rough or surfaced, treated timber and lumber furnished shall be new,
unused material and shall meet requirements of Section
4162 for the size and lengths specified in the contract documents. In
timber structures, the class of timber or lumber shall meet requirements of
Section 4162 for use according to position in the
structure.
Inspection arrangements shall be in accordance with Materials I.M. 462. The cost of inspection shall be included in the unit price bid for the material specified.
4163.02 SPECIES OF WOOD.
Only Douglas Fir (coast region), Northern Pine, and Southern Pine will be allowed
for treatment.
Douglas Fir shall be incised before treatment in accordance with Article 4161.03, A.
On timber structures, all holes required in stringers, rail posts, post blocks, and scupper blocks shall be accurately bored before treatment wherever practicable.
4163.03 PRESERVATIVE TREATMENT.
Unless otherwise specified, all timber and lumber shall be given full pressure
preservative treatment in accordance with Section 4161.
