Analytics

The Iowa Department of Transportation's Office of Analytics, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, is responsible for preparing the secondary road report. The report provides federal, state and local agencies, and the public with statistical information regarding the secondary road system.

Information for the report is derived from data reported by each of the 99 Iowa county engineer offices. Based on these construction reports, which may have changed the road surface, length, and functional classification, the Iowa DOT's database is updated and current as of Jan. 1 each year.

The report contains three major sections:

• state totals in miles by type of surface
• a statistical summary
• county statistical summaries
