STAKEHOLDER RESOURCES

There is a lot involved in bringing ICM to the Des Moines area. The DOT and our partners throughout the metro have been working over the past few years to learn about traveler behavior, opportunities for improving the system and planning for the future. This page provides information about current ICM planning efforts and opportunities to learn more. Visit often to learn more about what is happening in the metro.

• Phase 2 ICM report The Phase 2 ICM report includes a systemwide analysis of future conditions, cost estimation of strategies and bundles of strategies, a preferred bundle of strategies, and a summary of online public engagement. The report serves as a culmination of regional ICM planning and provides strategic direction for ICM strategy implementation.
• PEER EXCHANGE WORKSHOP  The Integrated Corridor Management Training and Peer Exchange Workshop, planned by the Iowa DOT and FHWA was held virtually June 1, 3, and 10, 2021. This workshop focused on the background principles of ICM, how it is deployed, and peer DOT’s sharing their experiences with the deployment of ICM strategies in other areas. The Des Moines ICM project team along with FHWA, peer agencies with ICM experience, and key Iowa DOT staff hosted a three-day, Peer Exchange Workshop to gather both national and regional perspectives on ICM. The intent of this Workshop was to learn more about ICM, where and how it is has been employed, and to gather national perspectives on ICM in other regions of the country. This workshop will help Iowa DOT with further exploring the concept for its urban areas and will help peer agencies gather innovations and lessons learned from ICM plans and deployments at various stages of implementation.

• Advanced Freeway Management / Mid-to-Long Term Approach Five potential ICM approaches were presented to local and state agency staff to guide discussion of a unified approach. Workshop participants also outlined how active management of the freeway system could address safety and reliability needs. Learn more:

• Two Implementation Planning Workshops were held in August 2019. The workshops focused on identifying mid-term and long-term needs. • Concept of Operations Stakeholder Workshop was held in March 2019. The purpose of this meeting was to provide information about the concepts of operations for the Des Moines Metro Integrated Management project and solicit input from operational stakeholders groups. • An Online Public Scoping Meeting was held in January/February 2019. The purpose of this meeting was to provide information about the Des Moines Metro Integrated Corridor Management project and learn about traveler needs in the area.
