2414.06 ALUMINUM PEDESTRIAN HAND RAILINGS.
Aluminum hand railings shall be constructed of aluminum posts supporting rails of aluminum tubing in accordance with the contract documents and the following:

A. Materials.
Materials shall meet the following requirements:

1. Aluminum Parts.
Section 4190 shall apply.

2. Anchor Bolts, Nuts, and Washers.
Article 4153.06 shall apply unless otherwise shown in the contract documents.

B. Handling and Storage.
The aluminum posts and rails shall be carefully handled and stored at the site of the work. Aluminum parts shall not be stored in contact with the ground or where they may be attacked by acid or alkali. Members which are marred or damaged to the extent that their usefulness or appearance is impaired shall be replaced at the expense of the Contractor.

C. Installation.
Anchor bolts shall be set in the concrete curb at the correct location and elevation. They shall be firmly held in place by suitable templates that will insure their correct position during placing and hardening of the concrete.

Rails shall be assembled, aligned, and brought to the correct elevation by shimming, when necessary. Anchor nuts shall be tightened to hold the rail firmly in place. After the rail has been aligned, the tubular rails shall be positioned to provide the desired expansion, the setscrews tightened to hold the rails firmly in place, and the ends capped.

After erection, the rails, posts, and concrete around the post base shall be carefully cleaned of all dirt or grease by means approved by the Engineer.

2414.07 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT.
The quantities of the various items involved in the construction of railings will be measured in accordance with the following provisions:

A. Concrete Railings.

1. Concrete Barrier Railing.
The quantity of concrete barrier railing will be the quantity shown in the contract documents in linear feet (meters). The weight (mass) of reinforcement steel installed in the barrier which will be measured in accordance with Article 2404.09.

2. Concrete Open Railing.
The quantity of concrete open railing will be the quantity shown in linear feet (meters) in the contract documents. The weight (mass) of reinforcement steel installed in the barrier will be measured in accordance with Article 2404.09.

3. Retrofit Concrete Barrier Railing.
The quantity of retrofit concrete barrier railing will be the quantity shown in linear feet (meters) in the contract documents. Reinforcement steel in Retrofit Concrete Barrier Railing will not be measured for payment.

When the contract documents include an item for Electrical Circuits, measurement will be in accordance with Article 2523.22, B. When electrical conduit and junction boxes are installed as part of Section 2525, measurement will be in accordance with Article 2525.07. Otherwise, electrical conduit and junction boxes will not be measured.

B. Pipe and Structural Steel Pedestrian Hand Railings.
When the contract documents contain an item for linear feet (meters) of pipe or structural steel railing, payment will be the quantity shown in linear feet (meters) in the contract documents, from end to end of the railing.

C. Wood Railings.
The material used in wood railings shall be measured as provided in Article 2409.16.

D. Formed Steel Beam Railing.
The Engineer will determine the quantity of formed steel beam guardrail installed as provided in Article 2505.06.

Posts shall be measured as provided in Article 2408.45.
