Details

The North 17th Street Bridge is a single span arch bridge (20 feet long and 15 feet wide) constructed in a rustic style typical of the Civilian Conservation Corps, Works Progress Administration (WPA) and other Depression-era public works projects. The bridge employs a coursed, random rubble masonry technique of small to medium limestone blocks built over a Armco multi-plate arch. It was built in 1936 as part of Works Progress Administration activities in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The bridge is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion A for its association with WPA activities and under Criterion C for rustic style construction type.
