Digital Delivery

The Iowa DOT is updating how it works by using Digital Delivery. Instead of printing physical plans and designs, they now use 3D models with detailed information. This helps with construction, makes maintenance easier, and helps manage assets over time.

This site provides information and resources that share how Iowa will plan, design, and deliver transportation projects in the future - using innovative digital delivery methods and tools that incorporate data-driven decisions.

Our Vision for Digital Delivery

Digital Delivery

Digital Delivery will enhance our ability to share information seamlessly across the enterprise, significantly improve asset management, and provide greater value to all users, including construction contractors and suppliers.

Achieving the Vision

TACTICAL GOALS set expectations for accomplishing foundational activities that have a lower barrier to entry and accelerates work already in progress.

STRATEGIC GOALS set expectations for accomplishing activities that are more complex and require longer a higher level of coordination and longer time to complete.

According to a 2018 study, organizational information is often incomplete, people have a hard time finding the right data, and when they do, it’s often not trusted or not very easy to use. Asset managers on average are wasting nearly four hours per week just looking for data and another five and a half hours preparing it to be useful for decision making - nearly ten hours a week that could be used on higher value tasks.

Digital delivery is a step in addressing these problems.
