Iowa Driver Education

In Iowa, drivers under 18 must complete a state-approved driver education program. These programs are offered by public schools and licensed private companies.

Every Iowa school district must offer driver education to resident students, except those open enrolled elsewhere, and may charge tuition and fees.

Over 93% of students who complete an approved course are exempt from further drive skills testing, though a test may be requested by a parent, guardian, instructor, or licensing personnel.
