According to the Iowa Department of Transportations (DOT) specifications, all contractor workers are required to wear ANSI 107-2004 Class 2 safety apparel any time they are on foot within the right of way (open or closed road). The background color of this apparel can be fluorescent yellow-green, fluorescent orange-red or fluorescent red at the contractor's discretion. The Iowa DOT specifications were changed to comply with the November 24, 2006 Worker Visibility Federal Highway Administration's rule making.
