The vision of Iowa DOT geospatial program is to utilize and integrate geospatial data and technology across aspects of the department to position the Iowa DOT as an innovative leader, guide business decisions, and provide high-quality data and information to support a safe and efficient multi-modal transportation system.
The mission of the Iowa DOT geospatial program is to provide geospatial resources that enable users to collect, manage, integrate, transform, and disseminate spatial data while working to collaborate, innovate, and publish information through effective visualizations and analytics for our customers.
The Iowa DOT uses geospatial technology in many ways, some examples include:
- Using location intelligence to inform travelers and guide transportation decision-making.
- Developing and maintaining inventories to manage the location and condition of infrastructure assets, like roads and bridges, as well as operations and safety of the transportation system.
- Supporting a variety of mapping products in professional documents (digital and printed) or dynamic online applications.
