Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) construction equipment on road  

Starting in October of 2017, the Iowa Department of Transportation took over the administration of the DERA Grant Program from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Air Quality Bureau.  You can find information regarding past DERA grant awards on the DNR’s webpage.

Iowa’s 2019 DERA Program Awards

  • Allamakee CSD — Replace two diesel-powered school buses with two new low-NOx propane-powered school buses – up to $74,900
  • Bellevue CSD — Replace one diesel-powered school bus with one new diesel-powered school bus – up to $25,000
  • Cardinal CSD — Replace one diesel-powered school bus with one new diesel-powered school bus – up to $22,500
  • Center Point-Urban CSD — Replace one diesel-powered school bus with one new gasoline-powered school bus – up to $24,250
  • Henry County — Replace one class 8 diesel-powered single-axle dump truck with one new class 8 diesel-powered single-axle dump truck – up to $33,750
  • Hy-Vee — Replace one diesel-powered terminal truck with one new all-electric terminal truck - $148,274
  • Independence CSD — Replace one diesel-powered school bus with one new low-NOx propane-powered school bus – up to $38,586
  • Interstate 35 CSD — Replace two diesel-powered school buses with two new low-NOx propane-powered school buses – up to $87,500
  • Iowa Steel & Wire Company — Replace one diesel-powered forklift with one new all-electric forklift and charging infrastructure – up to $36,225
  • Lee County — Replace two class 8 diesel-powered dump truck with two new class 8 low-NOx diesel-powered dump truck – up to $119,000
  • Lime Rock Springs — Replace one class 8 diesel-powered truck and one class 6-7 diesel-powered truck with one new class 8 and class 6-7 diesel-powered trucks – up to $56,250
  • North Iowa CSD — Replace one diesel-powered school bus with one new low-NOx propane-powered school bus – up to $38,500
  • Northwood-Kensett CSD — Replace one diesel-powered school bus with one new low-NOx propane-powered school bus – up to $40,250
  • Western Dubuque Schools — Replace two diesel-powered school buses with two new diesel-powered school buses – up to $47,500

Iowa’s 2017-2018 DERA Program Awards

  • Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) — Diesel transit bus replacement with electric transit bus - up to $378,000
  • Anderson Erickson Dairy Company — Purchase and install idle-reduction technology on 85 trucks - up to $38,500
  • Brown Nationalease — Replace five (5) food service, refrigerated, straight trucks - up to $137,500
  • Burke Marketing Corporation — Purchase and install five (5) electrified parking spaces - up to $15,000
  • Iowa Northern Railway Company — Purchase and install idle-reduction technology for 20 locomotives - up to $140,000
  • Sunflower Enterprises, Inc. — Replace two 1999 model year, Tier 0, propulsion engines with two 2018 model year, Tier 3 propulsion engines and replace two 1999 model year, Tier 0, auxiliary engines with two 2018 model year, Tier 3 auxiliary engines on the Katie Ann – up to $243,380
  • Sunflower Enterprises, Inc. — Replace two 2000 model year, Tier 0, propulsion engines with two 2019 model year, Tier 3 propulsion engines and replace two 2000 model year, Tier 0, auxiliary engines with two 2019 model year, Tier 3 auxiliary engines on the Randy Kanipe – up to $170,381
