Now You Can Add Your Iowa Driver's License or ID to Google Wallet

Iowans can now add their driver's license or ID card to Google Wallet™  , then seamlessly and securely present it using a phone with Android 9.0 at TSA security checkpoints or at participating businesses.

It is free, optional, and acts as a companion to your physical ID. It does not replace it, so you should still carry your physical ID.

You’re in control of your data

Google Wallet keeps your mobile driver’s license and ID protected with advanced security, so your personal details stay safe.

  • Your mobile ID is stored encrypted and only accessible with your personal authentication.
  • Before you share your mobile ID, you can review what data is being requested.
  • If your phone is stolen or lost, your mobile ID can be deleted with a remote data erase.

Where Can I Present My ID?

Iowa Mobile ID was created as a platform that any business, government entity, or law enforcement agency can adopt and use to verify a person’s identity -- the same way they use your physical card today. It is considered an acceptable form of identity verification by the State of Iowa and can be used in any context in which you would use your physical ID to verify your age or identity.

You can use your Iowa driver’s license or ID in Google Wallet at 200+ TSA checkpoints including the Des Moines and Eastern Iowa airports as well as other participating businesses.

You can look for the Iowa Mobile ID logo on a business’ window or door, or simply ask if they accept it. View businesses that have notified the Iowa DOT that they are ready to accept Iowa Mobile ID.

Not all businesses are able to verify Iowa Mobile ID yet, so you should still keep your physical ID as a back-up.

At participating locations, you may have two options to present you mobile ID, via NFC (tap) and/or via QR code.
