Brian Johnson has joined the Iowa DOT’s Modal Transportation Bureau as the Aviation Program Manager. Johnson will manage and administer the State Aviation Program, including the State Airport Improvement Program, Vertical Infrastructure Programs, and other programs. He also will work with the system planning process and the aviation DBE program. Prior to joining the Iowa DOT, Brian was with Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management serving as a planner focused on policy, emergency frameworks, and administering federal grants. Previously, he worked in Colorado directing state-level project management and has a background working as a corporate pilot, flight instructor, and FBO operations. He brings a degree in Flight Operations from the University of Dubuque and holds Commercial, CFI, and CFII pilot certifications.
Aviation Director, Shane Wright noted Brian is a welcomed addition to the Aviation Team. “He will play a key role in managing the state aviation programs and ensuring that critical aviation funding meets its objectives and effectively supports the aviation system”.
