Disaster Proclamation for Repair Crews Responding to Hurricane Helene

The Governor has issued a disaster proclamation that provides relief from regulatory provisions for disaster repair crews traveling in and through Iowa to respond to the Hurricane Helene disaster in Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.This proclamation provides relief from the following:

  • Allows a vehicle to move overweight loads up to 90,000 pounds without needing to obtain a permit on non-interstate highways (Iowa Code § 321E and Iowa Administrative Code 761-511).
  • Allows extended hours of service of motor carriers and drivers of commercial motor vehicles (Iowa Code 321.449).
  • Allows electrical repair crews traveling in and through Iowa to be waived from the operating authority, registration, and fuel tax reporting requirements of the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) and the International Registration Plan (IRP (Iowa Code §§452A.52 through 452A.56 and Iowa Code chapter 326).

 This proclamation is set to expire October 31, 2024.
