You are a victim of identity theft if someone uses your personal information to obtain a state of Iowa driver's license, ID card, or vehicle title. We are here to help! Contact us, if you suspect your identity or the identity of someone you know has been compromised. We will investigate your complaint and work to resolve any issues, including clearing your driving record and determining proper ownership of vehicles. In addition, the investigation may result in the filing of criminal charges and administrative sanctions against the offender.

How Does Identity Theft Occur?

Identity thieves steal or obtain Social Security cards and numbers, birth certificates, immigration documents, or personal information that is unique to you. The identity thief can then use this information to:

  • Obtain a driver's license or ID card.
  • Open a bank account or obtain credit in your name.
  • Purchase an automobile or real estate.
  • Drain personal financial accounts.
  • Obtain fraudulent driving and criminal records.
  • Secure fraudulent government benefits.
  • Obtain employment.

To obtain information concerning your driving record, you must personally appear at your local DMV location and be able to prove your identity.
