Des Moines Area Interstate Projects

I-80 in Dallas County Construction

About the Project

Interactive Map

  • WHAT : I-80 will be expanded from four lanes to six lanes between Grand Prairie Parkway and 60th Street. Grand Prairie Parkway, Jordan Creek Parkway, and 60th Street interchanges will stay mostly as they are, but the ramps connecting to I-80 will be updated for the wider road. The project also includes improving the on- and off-ramps at these interchanges.

Bridges over the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), just west of Jordan Creek Parkway, will be replaced. These new bridges will be built wide enough for eight lanes to allow for future expansion, though only six lanes will be marked for now.
  • WHY : Traffic has significantly increased since I-80 was first built, so reconfiguration is needed to improve safety and make traffic flow more reliably through the area.
  • HOW : Construction will begin with the eastbound side, replacing bridges and pavement. Traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes during that time. Once the eastbound side is completed, traffic will switch to the new eastbound lanes while the westbound lanes are reconstructed. For most of the project, two lanes of traffic will be open in each direction, although there may be brief overnight closures.
  • WHEN : Construction began in the fall 2024 and will be completed in stages through 2027.
  • PROJECT BUDGET : $44.4 million
