Emergency Contact Information

If you were in a crash or had another emergency where you could not respond, how would your friends and family be notified? By voluntarily entering up to two emergency contacts, law enforcement will be able to contact your family or friends quickly, even if they are out of state.

WHO HAS ACCESS TO MY INFORMATION AND HOW WILL IT BE USED?

Only the Iowa DOT and law enforcement would have access to your emergency contact information. This information would only be used in an emergency to notify the contacts that you designate. The information is stored electronically and it does not go on your driver's license or identification card.

HOW DO I MANAGE MY EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION?

Providing this information is voluntary and you can add up to two emergency contacts. To add or update your emergency contacts, click the button below and log into the myMVD online service using your personal information (including your driver’s license or ID number) and add, edit, or remove emergency contacts yourself. If you don’t want to use the online service, you may complete and submit the Emergency Contact Form.

WHAT IF I WANT TO OPT OUT?

If you are currently an emergency contact for someone and would like to opt out, please complete and submit the Emergency Contact Information – Request to Opt Out Form or click the link below. We are not authorized to share personal information about other customers so we will not be able provide a list of who has listed you as an emergency contact. However, you can opt out to be an emergency contact for a specific person by filling out the form. If you ever want to opt back in, select this same form and enter the data requested in the Opt-In section and submit. Opt-out and opt-in can only be updated by submitting this form; myMVD online service does not provide this feature.
