STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING
The Iowa Department of Transportation, as a bridge owner, is interested in the ability to monitor a structure to detect damage or changes in the condition of a structure at early stages. Structural health monitoring (SHM) systems use various sensors to monitor conditions and performance of a structure. The system can help determine if the useful life of the structure has expired or if other maintenance is needed. Monitoring is used to help evaluate innovative technology or materials used in the design of the structure.
