Airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airports (NPIAS) are eligible to apply for federal Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funds.
General aviation and small commercial service airports are required to submit preapplications for federal AIP funding through the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Modal Transportation Bureau - Aviation, including projects funded with nonprimary entitlement funds.

Complete Applications Will Include
- Sponsor identification and checklist
- Please consider utilizing the FAA Airport External Portal for updating your sponsor information.
- CIP Data Sheet - One for each project in first three years of CIP signed and dated by the sponsor
- Five-Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
- Email draft copy to Junior.E.Lindsay@faa.gov and Joshua.W.Peters@faa.gov for comment by November 18, 2024. Final version must be signed by the sponsor.
- Long-Range Needs Assessment
- Planning documents as required
