UPDATE NOTICE:
    The newly released Cast-In-Place Culverts - Single Span RCB, Twin RCB and Triple RCB dated July 2020 are designed and supplied with the new Parallel Wing Headwalls. The intent of the Bureau is to use Parallel Wing Headwalls when feasible in order to provide relative parity between the CIP and Precast Culvert options. The use of these newly released CIP Culverts and Parallel Wing Headwall Standards should follow the guidelines below: 
  • For all new RCB Culvert projects and those just entering final design, if the TSL shows flared wing headwalls then the Final Designer should contact the Preliminary Designer and verify whether the Flared Wing Headwalls are mandatory for the specific project or if they can be changed to the new Parallel Wing Headwalls, as there could possibly be a scenario where the change may not be desirable. If it can be changed to Parallel Wing Headwalls, it should be.
  • For RCB Culvert projects that are finished or have begun final design, no change is required when using the April 2012 standards. EXCEPTION: Any designs scheduled for the July 1, 2021 letting that are based on the April 2012 standards should be under consideration for re-design to the newly released July 2020 standards. 
  • The April 2012 Flared Wing Headwalls and CIP Culvert standards are available through the Electronic Reference Library.
