This four-stage road project will last from March 2026 through the end of 2027. The project includes relocating utilities, reconstructing both northbound and southbound lanes, and building a new median, with traffic continuously shifted to accommodate each phase of work.

Traffic Impacts
Traffic will be limited to only right-in, right-out turning movements during the construction period.
Stage 1:
- Traffic will be shifted to the inside lanes while utilities including water and sanitary sewer are moved on the east and west sides of the road. There will also be new pavement constructed on 3rd Street.
Stage 2:
- Traffic will be shifted to the NB lanes while the SB lanes are reconstructed.
Stage 3:
- Traffic will be shifted to the new SB lanes while the NB lanes are reconstructed.
Stage 4:
- Traffic will be shifted to the outside lanes while the median is constructed.

Roadway Improvements:
Five Lane Divided Roadway
- Two travel lanes in each direction with a raised median
- Narrowed median to allow for left turn lane at 1st and 3rd Street intersections as well as at SE Peterson Drive
Intersection Improvements:
1st Street
- Addition of right turn lane for NB Ankeny Blvd traffic
- Addition of EB right turn lane for 1st Street traffic
2nd Street
- Will be modified to right-in, right-out only traffic
3rd Street
- Addition of left and right turn lanes for both NB and SB traffic on Ankeny Blvd
- Addition of left turn lane for WB 3rd Street traffic
Southeast Peterson Drive
- Addition of NB right turn lane on Ankeny Blvd
- Addition of left turn lanes for SB traffic on Ankeny Blvd
- Addition of left turn lane for WB traffic on SE Peterson Dr
