Weather permitting, the new Diverging Diamond (DDI) at the Wright Brothers Blvd. and I-380 interchange (mile marker 13) will be open the morning of Monday, Aug. 3. Be aware that while the DDI is opening, there will still be some lane closures and cones in place while finalizing the remaining construction.
Note: The previously closed Wright Brothers Blvd to I-380 Southbound ramp will be open and ready for use on Monday, Aug. 3. Temporary traffic signals at 6th and 120th streets will be removed and stop signs will be reinstalled.
What is a DDI and How do I Navigate it?
A DDI is an innovative interchange that moves traffic to the opposite side of the crossroad between the two ramp intersections. See the figure below for more details on the new driving pattern.
Benefits of the New DDI Include:
- Improved safety with fewer conflict points
- Helps traffic move smoothly
- Better sight distance at turns
- Shorter crossings for pedestrians
- Increased capacity between ramp terminals and increased left turn lane capacity
